CAST IRON COOKWARE HELPS WITH IRON DEFICIENCY?

Non-stick pans are most common these days. For all our daily needs, taking from roti to dal, we use non-stick pans to cook. But some 15 to 20 years ago, in every home cast iron pans, tawa, and pots used to be common cookware.

Today, after knowing the adverse effects of non-stick pans, everyone is shifting to cast iron pans. Though there are many benefits of cast iron pans, one that attracts everyone is that it fights iron deficiency.

First, let us understand what iron deficiency is. Iron deficiency anemia is a common type of anemia — a condition in which blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells. Reports say that almost 45% of Indians face this problem.

Though there are many treatments including allopathy medicines and Ayurveda alternatives and common remedies for this, all those help only to some extent. Change in our daily lifestyle is one that helps to a major extent. And one change that helps a lot is changing the pans we use.

Yes, using cast iron cookware for cooking helps in fighting anemia. It adds iron to our food daily and fights iron deficiency. This has been confirmed by reports too. Here is one of the reports by the National Library of Medicine
